This Sunday we will be looking at Psalm 23.
The very first words are striking in their simplicity and in their depth. “A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd”. David very simply and matter-of-factly states that the Lord is his shepherd. David was a shepherd himself. He was herding sheep when Samuel asked Jesse, David’s father, to send for him. David knows what a shepherd’s work entails. He knows that shepherds are not held in the highest regard. He knows that a shepherd’s work is oftentimes dirty work…and yet he says, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, “The Lord is my shepherd”. Christian, revel in this truth today.
Jesus Christ says “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” If you are in Christ, Jesus Christ is your shepherd and He cares for you and will never let you go.
